About Patasala
Leading children into a world of exploration, learning and growing, Patasala today rests on the vision of Dr. Maria Montessori, founder of the Montessori Method of education. Established in 1989 by Ms. Bhavani Kumar, this 3-decade-old institution is one of the oldest authentic Montessori schools in Chennai and is run with sheer passion, integrity, and commitment.
Centrally located amidst two lush and aesthetically-designed campuses, Patasala comprises three Primary environments for 2 ½ to 6 year olds and one Elementary environment for 6 to 12 year olds. With dedicated faculty all holding International Montessori diplomas from AMI (Association Montessori Internationale, Netherlands), and Montessori materials of international quality standards, Patasala provides an optimum environment where learning happens effortlessly and joyfully, through spontaneous self-exploration.
The school currently has a maximum capacity of 120 children with a high teacher to student ratio of 2 trained and certified adults for each class of 35 children.
Our Curriculum
Resonating with Dr. Montessori's 'education as an aid to life' ideology, Patasala strictly adheres to authentic Montessori curriculum for all children from 2 ½ to 12 years.
Highly skilled Montessori-trained adults present lessons in all subject areas – Practical Life, Sensorial, Math, Language, Geometry, History, Geography, Biology, and Science, using scientifically designed Montessori material that is laid out on low, accessible shelves in the class. The child is then allowed freedom of movement (within limits) to explore and choose activities that not only spark their interest but also satisfies their innate developmental needs. Repetition and self-exploration of activities eventually lead to in-depth understanding of concepts and give children the thrill of self-discovery.
As both Primary and Elementary classes comprise mixed-age communities, the children at Patasala thrive in a friendly atmosphere that fosters cooperation, collaborative peer learning, harmony and peace. Exposure to nature, art, music, dance, and social graces & courtesies are also intrinsic to the curriculum, underlining our focus on the holistic development of the child.
The Montessori method is thus the strongest educational foundation for the child’s formative years. When children eventually transition from this method, they adapt well into mainstream or alternate streams of education for their higher classes fearlessly and confidently.

The Montessori Guide
The primary role of the teacher or "Montessori guide" is to gently and lovingly connect the child to the environment. Being highly skilled and experienced, our team of authentic Montessori trained adults ensures every child at Patasala is treated with utmost care, respect and kindness.

It has been wonderful to be introduced to the Montessori system at Patasala. We have had earlier children from our family in this school. Our daughter Aayushi was a medium for us to have known the school and the system better.
Aayushi has developed a sense of belonging to Patasala and the teachers and non teaching staff as well. She looks forward to being there each morning and most of what she does there is kind of her little secret that she chooses to share with us when she is in a rewarding mood.

It was only after scrutinizing several schools, I enrolled my son into Patasala when he was 21/2 years old and I am extremely happy for having chosen this school. The Montessori environment helps a lot in personal and intellectual growth. Each work activity taught to the child has its own contribution towards the child growth. Activities like cutting paper, mopping, washing hands are most enjoyed by children as very few of us allow them do these at home.
Also, the system of making the child extend until 2.30PM the next day, he/she turns 4 years make them feel as a big boy and they enjoy staying at school until 2.30PM and to have their lunch along with their peer group.
Mixed age group is another added advantage as children learn to mingle with others easily. Since every child is unique, the Montessori system provides ways to help each one of them use their innate qualities to shine well.
Another aspect that attracted me during the observation session was the individual attention that was being given to every child as the aunty was sitting next to a boy and teaching him which is rare now-a-days.
